Graduates ENhancEment pRogrAmme for Employability (GENERAtE)
Program Details
Introduction
Human Resource Development Berhad (PSMB) have introduced “Future Workers Training Scheme” to fulfill employer’s requirement of specific skills and competencies for specific job prior to engaging any person for employment.
For this purpose, PSMB have implemented GENERAtE as one of initiatives to improve employability of current graduates who have yet to find suitable job.
JOTAC Academy is one of the registered centers under PSMB. Its short term programmes have been developed under GENERAtE scheme called “Professional Welding Certificate”.
There are three components included in the scheme, namely: 3G Welding (SMAW), Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) – dye penetrant and working in confined space.
Objective
The scheme is meant to assist, develop and complement unemployed graduates with:
Employment opportunities for graduates with state-of-the-art technology required by the industry.
Improve employability with relevant experiential learning.
Expose participants on available opportunity in career development
Employment in heavy industry
Target group for this training scheme is as follows:
diploma graduate or equivalent
physically fit
interest in chosen field
holder of CIDB’s green card
Training scheme:
this scheme is divided into two sections namely;
i) attending training session for 26 days to get international recognition ii) suitable job placement in related industry
Details
Training offered by JOTAC will include the basic theory of welding and its application in the oil and gas sectors, including shipping and fabrication industries.
Duration of training: the training session will undergo a fulltime training of 1 month – 7 hours daily for 6 days per week.
Advantages of this professional welding certificates:
i) a short duration of training ii) designed to meet requirement of related industrial iii) work placement after completion of training iv) the trainees will be given three skill certificates
Training Activities
a) WELDING -3G SMAW (SHEILDED METAL ARC WELDING)
JOTAC is jointly working with Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah to conduct this course. 80% of the course is focused on the development of skill and only 20% is on theory. Each trainees will under 18 days of intensive training on 3G SMAW as per American Welding Society’s (AWF) Welding Procedure Specification.
Welding Qualification Test (WQT) will be conducted on the 19th day to assess te skill of each participant. This test will be assessed by independent external party ( ie from SIRIM). SIRIM will conduct destructive test (by bending) on test peace produced by the participant. International certificate of AWF will be conferred to those who successfully completed the assessment.
b) NON-DESTRUCTIVE TEST (NDT) – Dye Penetrant.
This 5-day short program will be conducted by the experts in liquid penetrant. The objective of this course is to produce NDT (dye penetrant) technician who can maximize the use of this technique (knowing its applicability and limitation) compared to other inspection techniques in our industry. At the end of the course participants will also appreciate the requirements of PCN and ISO 9712 inspection.
c) WORKING IN CONFINED SPACE
This 2-day course is jointly conducted by JOTAC and NIOSH (National Institute Of Occupational Safety and Health). The objective of the this program is to equip participants with safety practices when working in a confined space such as in enclosed vessel or tanks. The most important is to use the knowhow of emergency equipment to save life of all personnel when situation arises.
